1973 Roughwater SPF

location icon San Pedro, United States
Year 1973
Length 35 ft
Builder/Manufacturer Roughwater
Price
$39,000

A classic and revered design from Ed Monk, this is the sportfisher model of the three options that were built in the Roughwater 35 size. A previous owner added a crow's nest style flying bridge which provides more distance visibility and an additional working helm for the serious fisherman. The turbo charged Ford Lehman diesel had a top end rebuild in 2019 with consistent engine maintenance recorded since installation in 1992 to current date in the log book aboard.

There's a huge cockpit with a three scoop bait well plus 2 one scoop bait bags. LP'd topsides, low maintenance painted teak rails, rigged for fishing with many extras. Check out full specs for more details, electronics etc., then call for your appointment to view! This boat is ready to take you to Catalina today, and she's priced right for a speedy sale.

Accommodations Walkthrough

Moving aft from the bow:

There is a large v-berth forward with a privacy door, hanging locker and drawers.

Aft to port, the salon/dinette is comprised of a U-shaped settee with storage lockers below that converts to a double berth, and the head compartment aft of the dinette has manual toilet, washbasin and shower. Across to starboard is an in-line galley with stove/oven, built-in refrigeration (currently non-op), a single SS sink with pressure water, storage drawers and lockers and good counter space.

Moving aft to the pilothouse we have the helm station with captain's chair to starboard  and a co-pilot/first mate chair to port. There are full electronics, see separate list for detail. The mechanical Wood Freeman autopilot is not connected as it's not currently required but it could be.There are multiple rod racks mounted to the beamed overhead. Headroom is 6'4" except in the v-berth where it's 5'10".

Back to back benches provide seating just aft of the pilothouse, and the forward facing bench also hinges up to form another double berth, to make total sleeping accommodations for six people. The cockpit is huge, with high gunnels and wraparound rails of painted teak with stainless steel stanchions. The crow's nest style fly bridge was not original to the design, but does afford the serious fisherman much better visibility plus a convenient extra helm station..

Engine and Mechanical

A rebuilt Ford Lehman Sabre 212 hp was installed aboard in 1992. The modification of the added turbo, first utilized by the British Military, generated over a 90% increase to the original 120 hp .

It was rebuilt again in 2019, with new turbo, new heat exchanger, rebuilt intercooler, rebuilt fuel pump, and head - basically a top end rebuild. There is good cylinder compression.

Full engine maintenance logs have been kept since 1992 and continue to this day.

Wood Freeman 500 autopilot is installed, but is currently disconnected.
