One of the best features about this Choate 40 is the deck and cockpit layout. Whether you are blowing up a dinghy on the foredeck or have 10 crew traveling from the low side to high side on a fast tack, maneuvering around Hurrah makes sailing on her a joy. The cockpit is large and spacious. It makes crew work easy and is comfortable when riding on her mooring at Catalina.
For full disclosure, this listing agent has owned Hurrah for about 13 years I have many family Catalina trips and about 500 races on her. She has been raced with 20+ crew and I have raced her singlehanded many times. However one wants to sail her, she does it beautifully.
When I decided I wanted Hurrah (her original name BTW) I owned a Choate 37 (CF) that I bought 10 years prior, had her refurbished at Baja Navel and she was the family Catalina boat and we also raced her.
After owning Choate boats for 23ish years I can say this about them. They sail like a dream. They are fast, well balanced, look beautiful on a mooring at Catalina. They are very well built, strong and sailing them in bad weather gives one confidence and a feeling of safety. They were designed and built to sail hard and cross oceans.
Deck gear includes:
Custom swim/boarding ladder. (See photos) Also includes another mahogany swim ladder.
2 anchors, chain and rode. New forward deck hatch, emergency tiller.
