1981 Peterson Serendipity

San Pedro, United States

A desirable cruising boat with a racing pedigree and unique features.

Designed in the late 70’s by Doug Peterson as a sloop rigged racer cruiser based on the IOR rules, early models were flush deck all out racers manufactured by Serendipity Yachts of Marin. By 1980 production of a wedge cabin version had been added as well as a full cockpit with coamings and bridge deck. This added additional volume and allowed over 6’4” headroom while still maintaining the sleek profile.

Hull is solid hand laid fiberglass with 6 longitudinal stringers. Cabin and deck are balsa cored. Hull to deck attachment is via thru bolted toe rail with integral 1” track, fiberglass and 3M 5200 caulking. All main bulkheads and chainplates are solidly glassed to hull and deck.

The hull, deck and all major bulkheads were assembled and bonded at Serendipity Yachts Marin facility in 1982. Final completion took place in Santa Cruz at Moore’s boatyard over the year of 1991-2. Launch was late 1992, followed by her sea trials and first sail on 7/4/93.

Puffin has the advantage of a shorter, high performance keel that was constructed by Doug Brewer in Santa Cruz making her draft 6'2" instead of the standard 8', thus making shallow Pacific harbors more accessible.

Many Serendipity 43s were raced very successfully, winning SORC and international competitions. Puffin has always been a West Coast boat with a history of regular participation and many wins in the Monterey Bay and Santa Cruz club coastal races

Six extra port lights were added to the main cabins so the boat is very light inside compared to others of this style. Two staterooms and two heads provide optimal privacy for two couples or a family.

If you're looking for a fast, capable blue water cruiser or a racer that's ready to go at a reasonable price, this could be your boat. Contact listing agent for your personal showing today!

Enter from the cockpit through the companionway and the nav station is to port, with electronics above and twin ice boxes below the nav desk lid. The guest stateroom is aft of the nav - a large quarter berth with lockers and privacy door.

The engine compartment is located beneath the companionway steps.

To starboard is a very spacious galley equipped with stove plus oven, microwave and double stainless steel sinks. Good counter space and storage. Aft of the galley is the guest head with vanity and washbasin.

Moving forward we have a U-shaped dinette with adjustable table on the port side and a straight settee to starboard, with a pilot berth outboard of each. The salon is very light and airy thanks to the addition of 6 extra port lights.
