Few trawler designs have enjoyed the enduring appeal of the DeFever 44 Trawler. Nearly 100 of these sturdy yachts were built making her one of the most popular DeFever designs ever
produced. The DeFever 44 is not a typical double-cabin trawler with an elevated cabintop over the aft stateroom. Rather, she’s a rare flush-deck design with single-level walkaround decks—an eminently practical design that results in an attractive profile as well as generally improved accessibility. She’s a heavy boat for her size, and her full-displacement hull provides a particularly comfortable ride in a chop. Belowdecks, her two-stateroom interior is arranged with the galley aft in the salon where it’s easily reached from the aft deck. Visibility from the lower helm is excellent, and port and starboard doors forward in the salon provide easy access to the decks. The aft stateroom is huge with tons of storage and cabinet space for a washer/dryer combo. A great feature of the DeFever 44 is her walk-in engineroom with workbench and near- standing headroom. Most DeFever 44s were sold with 135hp Lehman diesels which cruise at 7–8 knots with a range of 1,500- plus miles.
